Located in picturesque downtown Yarmouth, the First Universalist Church is a beautiful, convenient, and affordable space for gatherings of all sizes. Our light-filled Sanctuary, large Gathering Room, commercial sized Kitchen, Common Room, and Peace Garden have hosted weddings, birthday parties, meetings, family gatherings, memorial services, speakers and presenters, book signings, and child dedications. In addition to one-time occasions, spaces can be rented on an ongoing weekly or monthly basis.

Sanctuary. Built in 1860 and renovated in the Summer of 2016, the Sanctuary awes from the moment one approaches the doors. Spacious, filled with light, high ceilings, hand-carved details, and an accessible Chancel create a feeling of serenity. A lofted seating area and comfortable chairs that can be used in addition the pews provide enough space for large weddings and memorial services. Our Sanctuary has become a popular venue for performances; music, theater, and spoken word. Because of its beautiful features and atmosphere, the Sanctuary is also popular with yoga, sangha, and other meditative, movement-based, and spiritual groups.

The Sanctuary can hold up to 300 people.

Gathering Room. Renovated in the summer of 2016, the Gathering Room is large enough to host a banquet, but can also comfortably be arranged for smaller groups. Our most flexible space can be transformed for receptions, dinner parties, lectures, conversation groups, film screenings, and more. Tables and chairs are available for use and included in the price of the rental. The Gathering Room comfortably seats 85 around tables or 125 standing or in chairs.

Kitchen. Our spacious commercial Kitchen has it all: refrigerators, freezer, cooktops, an electric oven, microwaves, coffee brewers and urns, dishwashing sink, dishwasher, and a generous amount of counter space. There are also kitchen utensils, pots and pans, cutlery, dishware, silverware, and place settings for a complete banquet.

Sitting Room (Kitty Corner). A delightful and cheerful space for intimate conversation, the Sitting Room is adjacent to the kitchen and a bathroom and is included in the rental of the Gathering Room. Brightly colored murals, comfortable, intimate seating, low tables, and shelves full of books make this space feel intimate and inviting. For large seated events, the Sitting Room is often used as a place to serve drinks and hors d'eouvres and mingle before guests proceed to their tables. The Sitting Room can comfortably can seat 20 people on the plush built-in benches and comfortable chairs.

Common Room. Perfect for meetings, small conferences, or presentations, the Common Room offers a meeting table, chairs, and a large television with a VCR/DVD player and laptop hook-up. Wifi is available and there is a bathroom immediately adjacent. The Common Room has tables and chairs available that can be arranged for viewing a presentation or for discussions around a conference table, and are included in the price of the rental. The Common Room is ideal for groups of 25 people or fewer.

Peace Garden. A redbrick pathway leads to our sustainable native garden that bursts with flowers in the spring and summer. The path turns into a gathering circle before entering the building, making it a lovely spot for small outdoor events. An intimate outdoor wedding, garden party, or icecream social all make good use of this cheerful space.
