Week One: January 15 – 21, 2023
Week One: Helpful Links
Love at Home
- Write cards of thanks to mentors, teachers, or leaders who have made your life and the world better
- Make a list of things you are grateful for, write down at least two or three things every day for seven days
Love Together
- Call, text, or email someone from church you haven’t seen in awhile or want to get to know better
- Attend the Activism that Works documentary “United in Anger” on Friday, January 20, 6:30 – 8:30 pm at the church
Love in Community
- Purchase and Organize a Kit for Maine Needs (a mini warming kit or cleaning kit), bring these kits to church on Sunday, January 22, to have them delivered to Maine Needs
- Compost your food waste at home or sign up for a composting service like Garbage to Garden
Showing up for Love
- Attend an MLK Event:
- For Families: A celebration of Black arts and expression at the Children’s Museum
- Virtually: Committed to Listen hosted by the BTS Center and Maine Council of Churches
- In Person: Art and Activism at Bates College

Love at Home
- Learn how to cook a vegan meal and share it with your family – Need inspiration? Check out Sweet Simple Vegan for recipes
- Light a candle in your window on January 22 to show the world that the fight for reproductive rights burns bright.
Love Together
- Converse with and try to understand someone who has a different opinion
- Choose the council or committee that interests you and learn more about what they do (and whether you might like to come aboard!)
Love In Community
- Go on a shopping spree for the Yarmouth Food Pantry
- Support UU Young Adults for Climate Justice faithify campaign
Showing Up for Love
- Attend Yarmouth’s Affordable Housing Committee’s “Listening Workshop” on Tuesday, January 24, 6:00 – 7:00 pm, to learn about the proposal for “Inclusionary Zoning” (i.e. affordable housing).
- Register for faith based advocacy workshops with the Maine Council of Churches and attend with other members and friends of First Universalist

Week Three: January 29 – February 4, 2023

Love at Home
- Turn your thermostat down two degrees and bundle up in a sweater or blanket to use less heat
- Find a hopeful or joyful article in the news and share it with a friend.
Love Together
- Research our current and recent half plate recipients and send them a letter of thanks or curiosity: MUUSAN, In Her Presence, MANA, and Climate Action Now.
- Come to coffee hour and ask someone about what they love
Love In Community
- Donate scarves, coats, hats, or mittens to help keep your neighbors warm this winter and bring to church on February 5th
- Make a purchase at a local business that you otherwise would have bought online
Showing Up for Love
- Volunteer drivers are needed to transport culturally appropriate meals to those living in Motel 6 in Portland.
- Attend the world premier of Wabanaki Stories at Merrill Auditorium on Saturday, February 4th, at 3:00 pm

- Send someone unexpected a valentine or a nice note in the mail
- Call someone you love and tell them something you appreciate about them
Love Together
- Make your commitment to the Annual Campaign and consider upping your pledge by 5 to 10% for this coming fiscal year that begins on July 1
- Attend and participate in the “Love is an Action” service on Sunday, February 12
Love In Community
- Pick up trash along the side of the road, at the beach, or on a path
- Give to support the MANA Community Pizza Party happening on Friday, February 17, 3:00 – 5:00 pm at First Universalist – See the wish list of items and volunteer to help out
Showing Up for Love
- For families: Attend the Love Weekend at the Children’s Museum
- For everyone: Mark your calendar to attend the MANA Community Pizza Party on Friday, February 17, and volunteer to show up early to set up or stay late to clean up
