December Holiday Services & Events

Vespers

Our December Vespers service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, from 7:00 – 7:30 pm (with an optional time of fellowship from 7:30 – 8:00 pm). Wednesday evening vespers services are held on Zoom and led by Rev. Hillary. They are a time for meditation, reflection, and candles of joys and sorrows. You can receive the Zoom link by signing up to receive our newsletter or contacting the church office.
Evergreen Holiday Fair

All are invited to the Evergreen Holiday Fair, happening on Saturday, December 7, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, for tasty homemade frozen soups to go, a wide variety of homemade craft items, baked goods and treats, and gently used secondhand items, too. Come support First Universalist and do your holiday shopping!
Dinner Church

All are welcome at this festive Dinner Church gathering on Friday, December 13, 5:30 – 7:30 pm. For more information about Dinner Church and to RSVP please click here.
Lectio Divina

Lectio Divina is Latin for “Divine Reading,” and will take place this month on Tuesday, December 17, 8:30 – 9:30 am. Lectio Divina is an age old spiritual practice to discover and engage deeper meaning in readings we hold sacred – be they scripture, poetry, literature, or lyrics. Traditionally Lectio Divina has four parts – reading, reflection, response, rest. During our Lectio Divina gatherings, Rev. Hillary will offer a short text for those gathered to read, ponder, and speak about thoughtfully, noticing ways that the text fortifies, challenges, and comforts us. All are welcome to bring your coffee and tea and join us in this enlivening and centering spiritual practice.
In Darkness and Light: Moving Through Solstice Together

All are welcome to drop in to our Sanctuary on Friday, December 20, from 5:00 – 6:00 pm, for a time of gentle music and silent candles. If work and worries have you down, come in and let it go for a minute. If the seasons or the times are feeling difficult, come in and take a moment of shared comfort. Members of the Spiritual Care Council will be available if you’d like to talk with someone. We wish you peace.
Winter Solstice Service

On Sunday, December 22, we gather in our Sanctuary at 4:00 pm for a sunset celebration of the coming Winter Solstice and the lengthening of our days. Join us for song and prayer, intention setting, and meditative movement along our golden labyrinth.

O Come to a Christmas Eve Carol Sing on Tuesday, December 24, at 4:30 pm, before the start of the traditional Christmas Eve service. Gather around the piano in the Sanctuary to sing your favorite carols with our Music Director Sam Chandler.
